How to Prep Your Skin for Your Wedding Day

As all eyes are on you on your wedding day, with pictures being taken every second, you will want glowing skin that is free of dry flakes, blemishes, and other impurities.

We know that as the bride, you are under a lot of pressure to make sure everything is perfect on your wedding day.

Although you may have found your dream makeup artist to ensure you look and feel beautiful, you still have some of your own work to do to make sure your skin is prepped and ready. Follow these tips and tricks, and we guarantee your skin will thank you.

Manage Expectations

Of course you want to truly look and feel gorgeous on your wedding day, just like every other bride. But that comes with understanding that your skin is beautiful just the way it is; you are beautiful just the way you are. Our skin is always going to have texture and pores no matter what we do, and that is completely okay! Accepting this simple fact is the first step in preparing your skin for your big day.

Not only that, but in order to prep your skin for your wedding day, you have to understand your skin first. Is it dehydrated? Oily? Acne-prone? Your skin type will help determine what products you actually need. Don’t give into the temptation to buy every skincare product you see on TikTok; your skin and your wallet will not be happy. Instead, focus on products that will meet your skin’s needs; this helps you create a realistic routine, putting you on the right path for your wedding day.

Getting the Wedding Day Glow

According to experts, you should start prepping your skin at least six months before your wedding day. This may sound like an eternity, but trust us; you are going to want all the time you can get to make sure your skin is glowing for your big day.

This time period gives you a chance to experiment with different products to figure out what works and doesn’t. Not only that, but during this time you can solidify a skincare regimen and even treat yourself to a few facials (yes please!).

When putting together a skincare routine, look for a cleanser, exfoliator, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen that fits with your skin type. Again, make sure you understand your skin when buying skincare products.

If you aren’t sure where to start, work with an esthetician to put together a solid skincare regimen that will benefit you. Furthermore, strive to look for products that have natural ingredients; synthetic chemicals, such as fragrances, are more likely to dry out your skin, which will lead to more irritation and blemishes.

Although this may sound cliche, the things you are putting in your body does impact your skin. Keeping this in mind, hydration and whole foods are key for obtaining glowing and healthy skin. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water everyday, as this will flush out the toxins in your body, and eating lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats.

Your skin will thank you! If you feel like you aren’t getting all of the nutrients your body needs, consider talking to your doctor about taking supplements that contain biotin, omega-3, or vitamin E. When you are giving your body and skin the nourishment it needs, you will look and feel good. Bring on the glowing skin!

Tips for One Week Before the Wedding

I know we said to have a solid skincare routine the months leading up to the big day, but we recommend changing your routine slightly the week of your wedding. Hear us out. Glowing and plump skin is every bride’s desire, right? So, in the final week, we suggest getting one last facial. But don’t do anything abrasive! Instead, opt for a hydrating facial that will plump your skin and leave it glowing.

Not only that, but now is the time to ditch your acids, exfoliators, or retinols. Since these products have the tendency to trigger dry patches and flakiness, estheticians recommend taking a break from them the week of the wedding. Better safe than sorry, right? Instead, look at hydrating your skin with serums, toners, or essences to quench the skin and make it glow. Again, hydration is key for glowing and plump skin on your wedding day.

Overall, everyone’s skin is different, and that means your routine may differ from other brides. Do what you need to do for your skin, drink plenty of water, eat whole foods, and try not to stress. Enjoy the wedding planning process and take care of yourself. Your wedding day will be here before you know it! No matter what, you are beautiful and you are going to look beautiful, too.
